The 180hp BiTDI engine replaces the 163hp unit and coincides with production of Amarok models for Europe shifting from Argentina to Hanover, Germany.

Towing limits have increased from 2800kg to 3000kg for manual models with the more powerful engine while a new eight-speed automatic version has a higher towing limit of 3200kg.

Payloads have also increased – the new 180hp 4Motion Selectable has a payload range from 1091 to 1145kg compared with 1064 to 1108kg on the 163hp 4Motion Selectable it replaces.

The 180hp 4Motion Permanent with Bluemotion Technology has a payload capacity of 772kg against the 750kg limit of the old 163hp 4Motion Permanent.

The addition of Bluemotion Technology means this model achieves combined fuel economy of 37.2mpg and CO2 emissions of 199g/km compared to the 35.8mpg and 209g/km of its predecessor.

The 180hp 4Motion Permanent with Bluemotion Technology and automatic transmission boasts payload of 1077kg, with fuel consumption of 35.3mpg and CO output of 211g/km.

Eight-speed automatic transmission is available exclusively with the top of the range Highline specification with Bluemotion Technology and permanent 4Motion all-wheel drive, priced £25,105, excluding VAT.

Prices for the 180hp Amarok start at £19,795 for the Startline 4Motion Selectable with six-speed manual transmission.
