In August it saw the average price realised by light commercials being disposed of by fleets and leasing companies rise by £203, or 5.2 per cent, compared with July’s figures, to £4,045. It is the first time in 16 months that the £4,000 barrier has been breached says BCA.
The average price fetched by part-exchanges entered into auction by dealers rose by £160, or 7.5 per cent, while the average price commanded by nearly-new vans went up by over £1,000, to £9,034. “Supplies of good-quality retail vans were relatively limited over the period and buyers were bidding strongly for the best examples,” says BCA’s general manager, commercial sales, Duncan Ward.
Rival auctioneer Manheim agrees that wholesale van prices rose in August and points to a sharp rise in the average value of 4×4 pick-ups. Values increased by almost 50 per cent between February and August, it reports.
