Renault’s new range of electric vans is to appear at the CV Show in Birmingham on 29 April.
The new Trafic, Estafette, and Goelette are the first Renault vans to be based on the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) platform developed by Renault Group’s EV and software company Ampere.
Renault claims that the platform’s centralised software architecture and a connected, intelligent operating system represent a new approach to vehicle design. It says business users will be able to upgrade their vehicle with new functions in real time during its service life, with the potential for personalised offers to be made available based on individual driving habits.
Renault says vehicles with specific functions, such as ambulances, fire engines, police vehicles, refrigerated vehicles and other conversions, could include dedicated apps for unique, centralised operation of each component.
In addition, companies with their own operating system, for example delivery companies, will be able to integrate it with the onboard multimedia system.
Fleet users will also be able to log in to their profile and access a personalised interface with their preferred vehicle settings and apps.
Renault says the platform will also allow enhanced predictive maintenance, helping fleets in particular to reduce downtime.
In addition, Renault says the ability for the vans to receive cloud-based updates will help to protect residual values.
