Transport for London (TfL) has issued a final call for applications to its Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) scrappage scheme, the deadline for which is 7 September.

The scheme allows small businesses and sole traders to get £7,000 for each non-compliant van, up to a maximum of three vans (£21,000). There is also a £9,500 grant for replacing a non-compliant van with an electric van, and a £6,000 grant for retrofitting non-compliant vans to meet the ULEZ standard.

Under the ULEZ, which was expanded last year, diesel vans that do not comply with the Euro 6 emissions standard, and petrol vans which do not meet the Euro 4 standard, incur daily charges.

So far the scrappage scheme for the expanded ULEZ, which is also open to cars and motorbikes, has issued more than £186 million to around 54,000 applicants, around 18,000 of whom applied regarding a van or minibus.

TfL director of strategy Christina Calderato said: “We have seen enthusiastic take up of the scrappage scheme after it was opened to all Londoners.

“With the vast majority of those needing support to adapt to the ULEZ having already taken action and nearly 54,000 thousand applications approved, demand for the scheme is now much lower.

“We encourage anyone who still needs support to submit their application before 8 September. Any remaining funds will then be considered for other proposed uses to further the Mayor’s Transport Strategy.”
