Isuzu UK is to offer tipper conversions of its D-Max pick-up truck based on used examples of the Utility extended-cab model.
The ‘Tippadeck’ load bed measures 1,977mm long by 1,800mm wide and is constructed with 18mm thick interlocking alloy floor panels. Loads are secured by a 300mm high tailboard and sideboards made from lightweight alloy, combined with heavy-duty underfloor tie points.
The tailboard, which opens to 180°, features a two-way hinge to allow opening from both the top and bottom – rubber buffer stops are fitted to protect the body. The spring latches on the sideboards are recessed to avoid catching on objects and the corner posts are removable to provide an open platform for ease of loading and unloading.
A wander lead control activates the electro-hydraulic power pack that lifts the body. The tipping gear and subframe are fully galvanised to protect against rust and, once raised, an integral body prop and hose burst safety valve are included to stop the body from falling. A dual-tone safety alarm is activated when the body is raised or lowered and rubber-moulded body rests are designed to prevent the tipper body clattering the frame while the vehicle is being driven.
A tubular gantry with a protection panel has been fitted to shield the cab from the load area.
Isuzu UK says the tipper is aimed at customers such as tree surgeons, refuge collectors, landscape architects and construction firms. It expects to take about 200 orders a year with lead times of around four weeks.
Bodybuilder TGS is carrying out the conversion and the tipper will be available through the Isuzu UK dealer network as a used approved conversion. It will come with a five-year/125,000-mile warranty and five years’ roadside assistance.
Isuzu UK says it will release details of prices and availability once its dealerships reopen following the Covid-19 lockdown.
