Ford has introduced a new range of protective shields designed to help LCV operators meet social distancing requirements.

Initially, the shields are available for the Transit, Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom, with versions for the Transit Connect, Tourneo Connect and Transit Courier to follow later this year.

Designed to supplement operators’ existing PPE and hygiene protocols, the shields can be fitted between the driver and front passenger seats, behind the front seats, between second-row seats, and in combinations of the above.

Ford says the shields do not restrict comfort, space, or operation of the ventilation system, and that driver’s retain full visibility of the windscreen, side windows and mirrors, while passengers are also able to see and hear each other as normal.

The shields come with integrated straps for installation, and attach to existing cabin fittings and with removable suction cups attached to the windows.

They can be fitted, adjusted and removed without any interior modifications, and pack down flat for storage.

The shields, which have passed safety, quality and durability testing, and do not obstruct airbags, can be ordered through Ford dealers and online.

Ford’s European commercial vehicle aftersales director Owen Gregory said: “Our new protection shields provide additional support to our customers as they continue to operate in challenging circumstances, offering drivers and passengers peace of mind as they work and travel.”
