Volkswagen has unveiled the first full exterior images of its new, seventh-generation Transporter medium van.
UK specs for the new Transporter, which is based on the same platform as the Ford Transit Custom, are yet to be confirmed, but it is set to be available with panel van, Kombi, and dropside bodystyles, and with a choice of diesel, plug-in hybrid, and fully-electric powertrains.
Diesel engines producing 110hp, 150hp, and 170hp have been announced, while the plug-in hybrid will offer 232hp.
Electric versions will produce 136hp, 218hp, or 286hp, paired with a 64kWh battery. A version with a less powerful motor and smaller battery, aimed at the urban delivery market, will follow subsequently.
At 5,050mm long, the new Transporter is 146mm longer than the outgoing model, while its wheelbase has been extended by 97mm to 3,100mm. Width between the wheel arches is up by 148mm to 1,392mm.
Normal wheelbase versions will offer a load volume of 5.8m3, and this will extend to 9m3 with an optional long wheelbase and high roof.
There is a maximum payload of 1.33t, and a towing capacity of 2.8t.
Cabin features include a 12in digital instrument cluster and 13in infotainment display.
The new Transporter will be making its world premiere at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover in September, with the first UK vehicles expected in late Q1 2025.
