Telematics firm Teletrac Navman has announced a contract renewal with South Tyneside Council.

The new deal will see Teletrac Navman implement its advanced telematics system, enabling fleet managers to access a range of real-time data from one interface, including driver performance, vehicle location, fuel usage and idling time.

In addition, a driver ID feature will allow the council’s 1,000 drivers to present either a key fob or PIN number to operate a council vehicle.

Also included in the deal is support from Teletrac Navman’s professional services team, which will oversee the implementation process, and provide training on a case-by-case basis, helping the council’s fleet managers to get the best out of the system.

The council has 330 vehicles on its fleet, including more than 240 vans.

Teletrac Navman UK vice president and managing director Richard Lilwall said: “We’ve been lucky enough to work with South Tyneside Council for more than ten years and its continued commitment to delivering the best service to those that rely on it is second to none.

“This is clearly displayed in the authority’s willingness to modernise practices and implement a sophisticated fleet management system that will only add to the great work they have achieved in the past, ensuring high safety standards within their local community.”

South Tyneside Council fleet manager Tom Turner said: “I’ve been impressed by Teletrac Navman’s capabilities over the years, so I knew they were the right partner to support our digital transformation.

“In Teletrac Navman, we have a partner who gives us professional and easy to understand consultation, equipping us with the digital solutions necessary to carry out our day-to-day roles, as effectively and efficiently as we possibly can.”
