In 2011, there were almost 1.9 million white vans on the UK’s roads – 57% of the light commercial vehicle parc. Coincidently white vans also accounted for 57% of the UK’s vans in 2002 when there were just over 1.4 million in operation.

Direct line found that the number of LCVs in the UK has increased by 7000,000 (28%) in the last decade to 3.2 million with white proving to be the most popular colour every year.

Blue vans remained the second most popular in 2011 (11%) but were followed closely by silver vans which have surged in popularity from 2% to 10% of the overall total in the last 10 years.

Postman Pat may want to avert his eyes but the percentage of red vans in service has dwindled from 12% to 7% since 2002.
