So-called ‘van hypermarket’ Anchor Vans has announced plans to double the size of its business by developing a new 2.5-acre site next to its existing base near Reading.
Assuming plans are approved by the local authorities, the company said its expansion should create more jobs in the area, while the retailer said the proposed regeneration of a landfill site would reduce its carbon footprint by finding a permanent home for its valeting services.
The family-run business’ managing director, Simon Joyce, said the new project would reduce the number of vehicle movements between its sites by around 120 journeys a week.
“We are always looking for ways to reduce our impact on the local community and the environment,” he added
In addition, the firm said the new site would mean its suppliers can unload vans away from the A4 road.
