Stellantis insists there are distinct sectors of the market for all its brands despite building multiple models on the same platforms.
The group has renewed its entire range of vans for Citroen, Fiat Professional, Peugeot and Opel/Vauxhall this year. The vans share their respective compact, medium and large van assembly lines.
Brad Miller, head of LCV product and pricing for Stellantis, said: “We focus on differentiation between brands but [maintain] consistency too.”
According to Stellantis LCV director Lee Titchner, Vauxhall mainly attracts corporate businesses, while Fiat and Peugeot are popular with customers undertaking conversions, and Citroen has traditionally appealed to SMEs.
“There is a place for [all] four brands,” said Titchner.
Stellantis claims to have accounted for a third of all LCV sales in the UK in the year to 31 October and to have captured a 41% share of the eLCV market with 6,700 electric van sales. It supplies electric vans to large fleets such as the Royal Mail, Octopus Energy, British Gas, BT and Mitie.
Peugeot has recently agreed to supply a further 2,100 electric vans to the Royal Mail, to continue the brand’s long-standing partnership with the postal service. The deal comprises 1,100 E-Partners and 1,000 E-Experts. Stellantis says the deal has helped the E-Partner and E-Expert to become the best-selling electric vans in their respective compact and medium van segments.
Overall electric van sales in the UK currently account for about 7% of the total market, lagging behind the government’s 2024 ZEV mandate target for manufacturers of 10%. Stellantis, however, says it is ahead of the curve.
“We will achieve 10% easily this year,” claimed Titchner.
“Growth [in eLCV sales] will be dictated by the ZEV mandate, which is 16% next year. There is no risk of Stellantis not matching it.”
Nevertheless, he stresses the plug-in-van grant, which the government has extended into 2026, remains critical in encouraging customers to invest in electric vans.
In addition to its 400-strong sales and servicing network in the UK, Stellantis operates 15 dedicated Van Centres, which offer extended opening hours and roadside assistance. The company says it will increase this number to 40 by the end of 2026.
