Volkswagen has unveiled the new, seventh-generation version of its Transporter medium van.
The model, revealed at the IAA Transportation 2024 show in Hannover 75 years after the first Transporter debuted, has been announced with panel van, panel van ‘Plus’ (a van with a second row of seats), crewbus, double cab with platform body, and Caravelle passenger-carrying variants.
Engine options include 110hp, 150hp, and 170hp diesels, a 232hp plug-in hybrid, and 136hp, 218hp, and 286hp electric motors. The EVs come with a 64kWh battery.
The new Transporter, which shares its platform with the Ford Transit Custom, has load volumes of 5.8m3 with a normal wheelbase and roof, rising to 9.0m3 with a long wheelbase and high roof.
Maximum payload is up to 1.33t, and braked towing capacity is up to 2.8t.
The cabin features a pair of digital screens, as well as various USB and 12V sockets, and the option to add one 230V socket with diesels, or up to three with the plug-in hybrid and EVs.
