Peugeot is making an automatic gearbox available with its Boxer large van.

The eight-speed transmission is being offered alongside the existing six-speed manual gearbox.

The auto is available with 140hp and 180hp 2.2-litre diesel engines. According to Peugeot, a new clutch design means the peak torque figure of the latter engine rises to 450Nm, 80Nm more than the manual version.

In addition, a hydraulic accumulator is designed to leverage the most from the engine’s power by reducing the gearbox response time and promoting smoother operation of the start and stop system.

Automatic Boxers are available with a choice of two wheelbases, two vehicle lengths, and as a single-cab or double-cab.

The Boxer, also available as the E-Boxer electric van, was recently updated with new front bumper, grille, and mirror designs with the aim of boosting aerodynamic efficiency.

Comfort and safety equipment includes an electric parking brake, keyless entry and start, a 10in central touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging, driver fatigue alert, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection.
