Three engines are up for grabs. The petrol option is a 90hp 1.6-litre unit, but of much more interest to the majority of operators are the two 1.6HDi diesels. They can be had at either 75hp or 90hp. The former develops peak torque of 185Nm while the latter manages 215Nm. Power steering is, of course, standard and disc brakes are deployed allround with those at the front ventilated. ABS is fitted on all models as standard and ESP is a cost-option.

New Partner carries over the front-wheel drive layout and manual fivespeed gearbox from the first generation, but the gearstick is now dash-mounted.There’s a choice of two load lengths.L1 weighs in at 1,800mm while L2 stretches it to 2,050mm.

The resultant load space is 3.3m3 and 3.7m3 respectively. Specify the optional Multi-Flex front twin-passenger seat option and these can be increased by 0.4m3 with the potential to extend the load lengths to 3,000mm (L1) and 3,250mm (L2).

Cab storage space is extensive, including a full width shelf above the windscreen, and the driving position is hard to fault, even after conversion to right-hand drive. There’s a choice of two trim levels —S and SE — but all models come with central locking, electric windows, radio/ CD player with satellite controls and a driver’s airbag.

An oil change is required every 12,500 miles for the diesels and every 20,000 miles for the petrol. The warranty is Peugeot’s standard three years or 60,000 miles.
