Ford has announced it has won a deal to supply National Grid two hundred Ford Transit Custom Econetic vans. The Transits will be used by engineers to maintain the gas supply network and will join the National Grid’s already majority Ford-badged 3,350-strong fleet.

Powered by the 100hp 2.2-litre TDCi diesel the Transits have been fully liveried and equipped with racking equipment, first aid kits and special lighting. The majority of the vans will be used for emergency call-outs and the fitment and repair of gas meters.

Ford direct sales boss Stephen Gafson said: “The new Transit Custom is ideally suited to its role with National Grid and financially it clearly makes sense to the company, too. We are very pleased that Ford’s long association with National Grid is to continue.”
