Vauxhall and Renault have revealed the first sketches of the next generations of their sister models, the Vivaro and Trafic medium vans, which, despite wearing different badges, share the same DNA.

Both vans will make their debuts at the Commercial Vehicle Show in April before going on sale in the summer.

Vauxhall has promised “new design, new engines and new technologies inside and out” for the second generation Vivaro, which, like its predecessor, which launched in 2001, Vauxhall will build at its plant in Luton.

As well as improved economy and performance, the new Vivaro will bring passenger car levels of technology, comfort and amenities to the commercial vehicle sector, according to Vauxhall.

The design of the new look van will also feature cues from the brand’s car line-up with “a large, prominent front grille and wing-shaped graphics”.

The designer of the new Renault Trafic, Kihyun Jung, said: “Its lines embody Renault’s new brand identity. My aim was to achieve a dynamic, assertive stance without sacrificing either the robustness or user-friendliness customers expect of their van.”

Renault introduced the first Trafic 34 years ago and claimed its third incarnation would focus more closely on meeting the needs of business customers with revised styling, new technologies and a range of new engines that benefit from the brand’s expertise in the world of Formula 1 racing.
