Volkswagen’s new Caddy Bluemotion will go on sale in February priced from £14,600, excluding VAT.

The most economical version of VW’s light van, which the brand unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2013, has official fuel consumption of 61.4mpg on the combined cycle – 6mpg more efficient than the existing Caddy with Bluemotion Technology – giving it a claimed driving range of 800 miles. The Bluemotion van emits 119g/km of CO2.

Available in short-wheelbase panel van form only, the Caddy BlueMotion is powered by a 1.6-litre TDI common rail direct injection engine that develops 102hp and 250 Nm of torque.

The manufacturer has reduced fuel consumption through a combination of aerodynamic and engineering features such as stop/start, low-rolling resistance tyres, battery regeneration and by lowering the ride height by 27mm.

Standard features include hill hold assist and cruise control.

Based on an annual mileage of 30,000 and an average diesel price of 140p per litre, VW claimed the new Caddy model delivers a fuel cost saving of £744 over the standard 1.6-litre TDI 102hp model.

The Caddy Bluemotion features exclusive styling cues such as multi-spoke 15-inch wheel covers, body-coloured side guard strips and black and blue coloured trim fabric.
