New Sprinter, Vito and E-Vito vans will be fitted with the latest version of Mercedes’ Pro Connect connectivity and telematics system, which now features remote access and a digital driver’s log.
The latest version makes it possible to lock and unlock the vehicle remotely through an app, and if an auxiliary heater is fitted, this can be activated remotely as well.
Remote access makes it possible for packages to be dropped off or collected, even if the driver is not with the vehicle. If the keys get locked in the van, it’s also easier to retrieve them.
The digital driver’s log generates journey logs into an exportable PDF file, which is more efficient and less error-prone than manual entries.
Mercedes fits Pro Connect as standard to its larger vans, although it charges a software subscription fee after three years.
Vans that have the system, but were produced before this latest update may be able to be retrofitted and Mercedes-Benz hopes to offer the upgrade within the next couple of months.
Further features of Mercedes Pro Connect include geofencing and the monitoring of driving style, servicing requirements and parking.
Steve Bridge, managing director of Mercedes-Benz Vans UK, said: “We are committed to enhancing the value of our connected vehicle services that we offer to our customers to help keep their businesses moving.
“We don’t want to introduce gimmicks, we truly believe these digital services will add genuine value to the van community and provide small ways to give them one less thing to think about.
“As is always the case too, we welcome feedback from van drivers and operators about their use of Mercedes Pro Connect and any ideas of what they would like to see developed, so that we can continue to provide the most innovative solution for this hard-working community.”
