Toyota has revealed images of its eighth generation Hilux pick-up before the model goes on sale in Australia in October.
The truck is not set to come to the UK market until 2016 and as yet specifications and prices are not available.
However, in Australia Toyota will offer the new Hilux with four engines, including two newly-developed turbo diesels: a 2.8-litre developing 450Nm of torque and a 2.4-litre unit with up to 400Nm torque.
The powertrains will be married to new six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
The manufacturer said payloads would go up to 1240kg (the maximum in the current version is 1060kg) while towing capacity would increase from 2.8-tonnes to 3.5-tonnes to equal the class-leading Isuxu D-max and Ford Ranger models.
In Australia the Hilux will be available in both 4×4 and 4×2 guises and in three body styles – single, extra and double cabs.
The Hilux was the UK’s biggest-selling pick-up in 2014 with 8318 registrations, according to the SMMT.
