The Custom beat the Dacia Dokker and Mercedes-Benz Citan into second and third place respectively to become the fourth member of the Transit family to scoop the prize following the successes of the Transit in 2001 and 2007 and the Transit Connect in 2003.

Barb Samardzich, vice-president of Product Development, Ford of Europe, said: “The Transit Custom is a new kind of one-tonne van – hard-working and practical but great to look at and great to drive.”

Ford showcased the Custom in Hanover alongside the new Transit and Transit Connect. As part of its global platform strategy the manufacturer is to renew its entire commercial vehicle line-up over the next two years.
