Urging small and medium-sized bodybuilders to get in line with the legislation, SMMT boss Paul Everitt said: “Whole vehicle type approval ensures that technical and safety standards are met across Europe, but businesses could be at risk if they don’t prepare now.”

The SMMT has launched an interactive guide, SENTA (SMMT’s European and National Type Approval), to help manufacturers and bodybuilders to comply to the laws.

The European rules collate hundreds of type approval elements to ensure vehicles meet strict safety and technical regulations.

From 29 April converters and bodybuilders of Special Purpose Vehicles such as motor caravans, ambulances, hearses, wheelchair accessible vans of up to eight seats and armoured vehicles will have to adhere to the legislation to continue operating.
