The vehicle uses the same EV powertrain and battery developed for the Nissan Leaf family car.
Nissan’s corporate vice-president Hideto Murakami, who is responsible for the brand’s global commercial vehicle operation, said that, thanks to its low running costs, the NV200 EV had the potential “to ease the economic burdens” facing companies.
“Fedex Express feedback from the evaluation process will help us tailor a future battery-powered Nissan commercial vehicle that meets customer needs,” he added.
Dennis Beal, vice-president of Global Vehicles for Fedex Express said: “Collaboration is part of our vehicle strategy.” He claimed the partnership with Nisan would enable the firm to contribute towards the manufacturer developing the best electric NV200 possible.
Fedex Express already runs 43 electric vehicles in London, Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Memphis.
