A record number of vans are now in use in the UK, according to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

The organisation’s latest Motorparc data, on the country’s overall vehicle fleet for 2024, shows that 5,102,180 vans were on the road, up by 1.8% year-on-year, and an increase of more than one million since 2015.

The number of battery electric vans on the road increased by 31.6% year-on-year, to 80,476, representing 1.6% of the total number of vans in use.

The SMMT’s data also shows that white remains the most common colour for vans, accounting for 2,745,635 vehicles.

The overall vehicle parc also reached a record volume in 2024, with 41,964,268 vehicles on the road, up by 1.4% year-on-year.

SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said: “Britain’s vehicle parc is growing, providing essential mobility for the nation while reducing its environmental impact.”
